Hello … what’s going on here???

Ten months ago back in February I posted an update on the project, where everything sat, and then announced that the website would be given an overhaul. About mine months ago in March the redesigned website launched. My expectation after that was that I’d be able to finish phase 2 this year and really start on the last and final phase, phase 3. … And then life happened, and what occurred turned the rest of my year on its head. All my project work was (and has largely been) put on hold until further notice. So, what happened? I…

The State of the Project

You get busy with life and projects, and only after you look at the date of your last entry do you realize it’s been a long time since you posted anything. Time for an update. Work continues, albeit slower than expected, but that’s okay. Real life first, personal obligations second, and then hobby project stuff. Real life and other obligations have kept me a quite a bit busier, particularly with things re-opening, life returning closer to normal (as if you could define “normal”), and with a pet who developed a chronic condition that has needed a lot of care….

Project Work Progress Update

It’s been a good few months since my last posting and work continues. At times a bit slower than I’d like, however life and work come first, hobby second. During the heat dome event I kept the computer off and so didn’t do any writing for the better part of a week because my place got rather toasty. So, where do things sit right now? Phase 1: The phase 1 draft is done and I’ve gotten some good feedback on it. The final word and page count for this initial draft is 85,110 words and 175 pages. I’ll be…

Where things sit

I’ve been so busy with writing, designing, researching, working, life, the rare visit from family, and catering to my floofs every need (I swear if you’re owned by a cat, you’re their servant or staff) that I’ve not posted any recent updates. It’s update time. Phase 1: The phase 1 draft is done and I’ve gotten some good feedback on it. The final word and page count for this initial draft is 85,110 words and 175 pages. Phase 2: The engine document is coming along quite well, and I’ve gotten that to a state that I need to set…

Looking long-term

Just over a year ago I started work on a project that by the time it’s done will result in two rule sets and the underlying architectural framework and mechanics, the engine, that powers both. Phase 1 of the project was last year’s NaNoWriMo project and by the time that was done the manuscript had 42,000 words and 79 pages. The final phase 1 manuscript, by the time all the writing was done, had 85,110 words and 175 pages. Phase 2 is this year’s project of this larger project-that-shall-not-yet-be-named. This particular manuscript is currently sitting at 12,341 words and…

The Current State of Things

Just under 10 months ago I shared that I’d been revisiting a challenge I gave myself a decade back. Fast-forward to now and completing the challenge is well under way. Since then I have successfully completed the initial draft of the rule system that I was working on and have some others currently reviewing it to make sure the rules are solid, clear, balanced, and stable. Yes, 2020 has been quite a year and in several not-so-pleasant ways, however for me I’ve been able to find a silver lining in the storm-clouds of the year. Because of the increased…

LARP List Update

It had been a while since the LARP List had been visited, links checked, and games updated. That has now been done. A couple of entries have been removed as they pointed to games or events which are no longer active and a few others have been added. Many have has URL updates so that if you click a link it’ll now go to an active site or page with information on it. If you know of a LARP in the Everett-Seattle-Tacoma, Washington area that’s not on the list please let me know and I’ll add it.

It’s Alive! a.k.a. Digging up an old project

A recent conversation with an individual whom contacted me out of the blue has me revisiting and picking AgileLARP back up and brushing the dust off. What is AgileLARP? The page on it gives some information, however I’ve also come up with this blurb, which I think is a bit more descriptive as to what it will be when completed: AgileLARP is a LARP engine, not unlike a computer game engine, but that it is specifically designed for live role-playing. Its job is to provide the structure and framework necessary to build a LARP around, but isn’t a whole…

Busy, busy bees … on a subdomain

While mortalisrpg.com has been pretty quiet, one of the subdomains of this site has been pretty busy. That subdomain belongs to the US LARP Wiki at larpwiki.mortalisrpg.com. The US Larp Wiki is intended to become a knowledgebase of information about the US larp scene. A way to record the collective tribal knowledge that is scattered about the community. This will include, but is not exclusive of: historical, factual, theoretical, instructional and artistic information. If you’re a US LARPer and want to contribute, all you need to do is create an account at the wiki website and start contributing.

Why the crickets?

At the start of the year the site was given an overhaul, old articles reposted and then … crickets. While things have been quite on this site, real life and some side projects have kept me busy. The primary side project is the creation of a LARP group in the Seattle area whose focus is on unrelated (meaning not campaign or chronicle tied) one-shot games and not being tied to any one particular rule set or genre.  If you’re going to be at Norwescon myself and my cohorts will be running a Paranoia game on Friday and a Firefly/Serenity…
